@reaktor24 said in PSX Games not working on RetroPie:

Thanks for the tips. I updated RetroPie but wasn't able to update RetroArch through EmulationStation. Looks like this isn't an option.

You need to start the RetroPie-Setup script from the RetroPie menu and update it, then update retroarch like you did before.

Anyway I managed to get it working. I had renamed one of my games (Castlevania) to remove the [PSX] from the start of the file name and this seemingly broke all the games. Once I renamed it back again they all started working. Very strange. Anyway thanks for your help.

It's not strange, the .cue files contain the filename of the .bin cd image, if you renamed the .bin file(s) without updating the contents of the .cue file, then the emulator will not be able to find the correct cd image file(s).

Can you please add the full details about your setup asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first ?

Try running EmulationStation manually from the command line (after it crashes) with

      emulationstation --debug

and post the last error shown on the screen when it crashes ? I still suspect there's a connection issue with the controller, the crash is usually indicating a bad connection (controller disconnects immediately after being detected).

@jamrom2 True. Maybe he was thinking exclusively of Pi4/Pi5 spec devices. The Zero generally lags behind by a generation or so, currently being similar in spec to the Pi3. I've never really seen the point of the 'A' boards especially when the compute boards exist.

@mitu Ah thanks for the advice. Turns out I only have the Pi3 so even if I could somehow set up the thing to recognise I had a Saturn emulator on it, it's like you said it more than likely wouldn't run very well or even at all. And to think I spent all afternoon browsing the thing's files to try and find a backdoor. Oh well. Sticking to pre 1995 consoles for now it seems.

I am updating the topic to share that I actually was able to update the core Buster image to the latest kernel and both of these settings are in place. For any users that want to try NVME boot over PCI-e, I cloned the boot and root folders over to my NVME drive after doing a full update on eMMC (SD works just as well).

Get a powered USB hub and use it to connect the USB encoders to the Pi. The Pi may not be able to provide enough power for the encoders.

      @ExarKunIv @SuperFromND
It's about $200 for the 8GB model with 512GB Memory.

What impressed me was they were playing Dreamcast and Gamecube games pretty damn well on it in the stream previews -

So much so, they ever advertise it as a feature. - https://picopc.net/pages/pantera-pico-pc-specs

Which makes me wonder about games like Carnevil and other arcade titles.

It is nice that the pi 5 is out of the “rumor” stage and now is officially known to be in development. I wonder if they will pull the 64bit is out of beta when it is released.

Just updated a bug in the RetroPie installation script, which did not take into account the move to the new carbon-2021 theme from RetroPie v.4.7.19 and onwards.

Should work now for both newer and older RetroPie versions. Sorry for any inconvenience.

@CodeKing Try installing the desktop first - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#where-did-the-desktop-go - and then selecting the boot to desktop - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#how-do-i-boot-to-the-desktop-or-kodi.

Make sure you're package list fully updated first - run sudo apt update from a terminal or use the RetroPie-Setup update function to update the OS/packages.
